Molly spread a crayon map across the bonnet of Bill’s ancient van, which wheezed whenever anyone mentioned hills. Across the street, balloons bobbed above a garden gate, advertising trouble in cheerful colors. She frowned darkly. “That is not a party. That is a glittery fortress with cupcakes and tiny mercenaries.” Bill peered through binoculars made from two toilet rolls and professional-looking black tape.
