They bobbed with menace. "Side gate, past balloons, into the gift room." Through the slats she saw a room glittering with wrapping paper and unopened dreams. "The gift room. Piles of noisy plastic." Bill rubbed his hands together with the glee of a man who had never met a child. His grin was alarming. "We grab the big boxes and leave the books." Molly crossed her arms, which made her tiara tilt at a rebellious angle. "Books are valuable, Bill. Some have pages." Bill sighed, knowing better than to argue about the literary market. "Fine. Books too. But no science kits." She tugged a blonde wig into place and checked her reflection in a spoon. "Deal. If I step on a block, I’m suing childhood." Molly followed his gaze to their getaway vehicle, a van with one working headlight. "The van that sounds like a rescued duck?" Bill patted the dented door as if calming a nervous horse. "That duck has good upper body strength." Molly hoisted an empty duffel bag and tried to ignore the sound of giggling. "Let’s move before the cake arrives." Together they crept toward the gate, two grown criminals dressed for a fairy tale, ready to rob a six year old blind.
