Molly pinned a birthday invitation to the fridge with a magnet shaped like a getaway car. "Right, Bill, listen carefully because this is our most sophisticated job yet, and I need you fully awake," Molly said. "I am awake, Molly, I am just resting my eyes in a tactical manner while lying horizontally," Bill replied. "You were snoring into a bowl of cereal, but never mind, because today we infiltrate Timmy Turner's seventh birthday party," she explained. "We steal children now? Molly, that seems morally complicated and logistically noisy, even for us," Bill said, sitting up. "No, genius, we steal the presents, every beautifully wrapped, unattended, glorious box stacked beside the cake," Molly said. "Ah, presents, that is better, although last time you said cake and I heard take the whole cake," he muttered. Molly tapped the invitation twice and drew a red circle around the garden gate. "The party starts at two, the presents arrive by two fifteen, and the sugar crash hits at three," Molly continued. "Sugar crash? Is that our window, our cover, or the reason you packed three emergency biscuits?" Bill asked. "All three, Bill, because when twenty children collapse into frosting comas, nobody notices two adults carrying gifts," she said. "Nobody except parents, grandparents, neighbors, the clown, and possibly a very judgmental bouncy castle attendant," Bill pointed out. "Which is why we go disguised, obviously, and before you ask, no, you cannot be a dinosaur again," Molly warned. "The dinosaur was perfect, Molly, children love dinosaurs, and I only roared when I got excited," Bill protested. "You roared at the piƱata, chased the birthday girl, and ate three party hats before we escaped," she reminded him. Bill considered this with the solemn dignity of a man wearing pajamas at midday. "Fine, no dinosaur, but I refuse the clown costume because those shoes betrayed me last summer," Bill declared. "Agreed, you will be Uncle Pickles, beloved entertainer, balloon animal specialist, and extremely trustworthy present inspector," Molly announced. "Uncle Pickles sounds like someone banned from three supermarkets and a wedding for reasons nobody explains," Bill said doubtfully. "Exactly, nobody questions Uncle Pickles, they just smile nervously and hand him whatever he asks for," Molly replied. "And what are you, his glamorous assistant, his suspicious wife, or the lady selling illegal fireworks outside?" Bill asked. "I am Brenda the Face Painter, artist, professional distraction, and queen of glitter based misdirection," she said proudly. Molly produced two costumes from a suitcase that smelled strongly of peppermint and old disguises. "Brenda sounds dependable, but can Brenda paint a tiger while I quietly load presents into a wheelbarrow?" Bill wondered. "Brenda can paint a tiger, a dragon, and a tax inspector if it buys us four minutes," Molly promised. They shook hands over the crayon map, sealed the ridiculous bargain, and began rehearsing balloon animals with fierce concentration, while outside the quiet street remained blissfully unaware that Timmy's birthday was about to become local legend forever for all the wrong reasons.
