Molly spread the party invitation across Bill's kitchen table carefully. “We hit the birthday party exactly at noon tomorrow together.” Bill leaned closer and studied the colourful drawing underneath thoughtfully. “Why noon? The magician arrives then and chaos begins immediately.” Molly tapped the schedule twice with one bright red pencil. “Exactly. Nobody watches doors while children scream for cake loudly.” Bill opened a biscuit tin and considered their limited options. “I refuse another clown costume after the disaster last summer.” Molly grinned and pulled a rainbow wig from her bag. “You looked adorable, terrifying, memorable, and slightly dangerous to furniture.” Bill shook his head and rescued the falling biscuit tin. “Every balloon animal exploded whenever I attempted sitting down anywhere.” Molly scribbled a magician hat beside his name in ink. “Then be the magician instead. Rabbits adore calm patient thieves.” Bill rubbed an old scar shaped suspiciously like tiny teeth. “Rabbits bite me constantly. Remember that dreadful Easter brunch incident?” Molly nodded solemnly and offered him a protective carrot stick. “That rabbit started everything. You merely defended your honour bravely.” Bill accepted the carrot and practised looking mysterious for Molly. “Fine. I shall pull one rabbit from this borrowed hat.” Molly drew the house, garden, presents, and escape route neatly. “Presents sit beside the patio doors under shiny paper mountains.” Bill measured the illustrated garden using two biscuits as rulers. “How many presents should two respectable thieves reasonably expect there?” Molly checked the guest list and raised both eyebrows high. “Thirty children, sixty relatives, and one extremely generous pirate uncle.” Bill whistled softly and imagined wrapping paper reaching the ceiling. “We need sacks, trolleys, silence, luck, and comfortable running shoes.” Molly produced three sacks embroidered with cheerful stolen property labels. “Three expandable sacks, darling. Optimism remains my greatest criminal strength.” Bill peeked inside one sack and discovered glitter covering everything. “We enter separately, smile warmly, and avoid suspicious villain laughter.” Bill practised smiling until Molly begged him to stop immediately. “That smile suggests dentists, tax inspectors, and kidnappers selling insurance.” Molly winced and handed him dark glasses without further comment. “Children love entertainers. Parents love anyone entertaining their children safely.” Bill wrote ENTERTAINER across his forehead before Molly stopped him. “Subtle disguise matters. Write entertainer somewhere less visible next time.” Molly fetched costumes, props, confetti cannons, and one emergency kazoo. “What precisely does the emergency kazoo accomplish during a robbery?” Bill held the kazoo like a tiny golden trumpet proudly. “Musical panic. Nobody investigates theft during an unexpected kazoo solo.” Molly assigned Bill magic, juggling, applause management, and present collection. “And your job involves what besides pointing elegantly at diagrams?” Bill ducked as Molly threw a cushion toward his head. “I drive, distract, negotiate, supervise rabbits, and carry lighter presents.” Molly loaded the van with sacks, ribbons, tape, and snacks. “Snacks matter because burglary becomes impossible when your stomach growls.” Bill locked the door and followed Molly into bright morning. “Then noon tomorrow, partner. Presents beware, the entertainers are coming.”
