The bell over the door jingled as it swung open. In stepped a woman, her cerulean eyes scanning the room. A pleasant-faced, apron-clad woman behind the counter greeted her, "Welcome to Honey Bee Bakes. How can I help you?" The newcomer sidled up to the display case, enticed by the array of sweets. "I heard you've found a body in here?" She pointedly caressed the macarons on the counter. The baker's eyes flashed in concern. "Shhh, yes, right behind the flour sacks. Town's awash with rumors." "Ah, I see. Think it's safe to say, this happened well before I showed up, right?" The woman chuckled, her curiosity obvious. "Yes, about an hour ago, if not more. Our town's police chief is still here, asking questions. Nasty business." As the baker spoke, she placed a platter of fresh muffins on the counter. "Want to join the gossip?" The woman's mouth watered at the sight, but she held her ground. "No thanks, I'm searching for inspiration, something sweet for a case all my own." The baker welcomed the idea with a raised brow, "Do tell, a mystery writer?" Smiling and grabbing a large coffee, the woman responded, "Something like that." Another tinkle as the bell welcomed another curious stranger. Over their heads, chatter spread, a new chapter unfolding.
