Molly chewed on her bottom lip, examining the blueprints scattered on the dingy table inside their hideout—an abandoned warehouse just outside the city. Bill sat across from her, drumming his fingers on the rubberized surface. "Look," he pointed at the schematic laid before them, "This is the Wyldewood Community Center. Only problem is they're having the party on the top floor with the entire place locked down." "We could easily slip in," she said, "Dressed up as clowns." "First of all, Molly," Bill's eyes narrowed, "I'm not exactly a fan of clowns. Second, those cameras." He rubbed his chin. "There's got to be a less conspicuous way." "Magicians?" Molly considered. "Except for Gandalf's staff, we'll look out of place." "Invite?" She raised an eyebrow. "Simple, although challenging. They'll need to have an extra spot. We'll just say we're aunt and uncle." "Ahh, but how do we fit in with the 'planned adult seating'?" Bill grinned. "Perfect, I know a guy with retractable chairs. We'll shrink down." Molly laughed. "Got to love modern technology." Bill slipped a small device onto the table, an inch-long rectangle glinting in the half-light. "A new prototype. Once it gets to work, we'll be the size of mice." "Once we're in, we're on our own." Molly examined the gadget. "And how do we fit all the swag inside our pockets?" "Who needs pockets when we have backpacks?" Bill grabbed one from beside him and thumped it for emphasize. "Padded for comfort. You know, in the airplane scene from Home Alone." "Nice one, Kevin McCallister. But how do we avoid those snooping parents and security guards?" "A bit of subdermal scanner jammers. Nothing and no one will detect us." "Ah, tech, the savior of our heists." At this, Bill's phone buzzed. He fumbled to pick it up. "Hang on." He looked at the screen, grinning. "Our Mr. Shrink-It guy. It's a go." Molly tapped her finger, in thought. "Now, the presents. They're in the heart of the party, near the bouncy castle. Let's infiltrate by blending in. Face paint or balloons?" "Face paint, hands down. That way, we're officially Maleficent and the Joker." "Molly the villain, fitting." She smirked, clearly pleased with the idea. "And once we make off with the swag, there's only one way out—the balcony fire escape." "Easy slide, end to end. Grab the goods, jump and dash for the getaway." "Speaking of getaway, how about we clone a parent's vehicle?" Molly suggested. "VIN cloner, my dear. Slick, ain't it?" Bill's smirk was nothing short of prideful. "Driver's seat and we're away." "Alright, so we've got the shrinker, the face paint, the jammers, the getaway. But no witnesses?" Molly scratched her head. "Sedatives in our eyes. Clouds their vision. They'll wake up with a bump and a blurry memory." "And that's our plan then," Molly said, pinching the bridge of her nose. "A subtle robbery at a children's party. Kudos to us, Bill." He stood and held out his hand, and Molly accepted it while shooting a wry smile, "I was just thinking, 'Easter Bunny and Smurfette' might compare. We have enough cake till then." They clinked glasses of chocolate milk, seal sealing the deal. "Children's sweets, the sweeter the heist." With that, the two thieves walked out of their hideout into the night, ready for the next big score. One thing stood in their minds—happier, new owners of all those stolen presents.
