Molly leaned against the damp brick wall of the abandoned warehouse they called home, tapping her fingers against her jeans as she studied a set of blueprints. "Alright, Bill. This place is swarming with little monsters tomorrow at a kid's birthday bash." "And we're the guys they're gonna call 'booga-booga man' if we're not careful," Bill muttered, tracing his finger along a route traced in yellow highlighter. "Looks like we've got to go through the kitchen, the ball pit, and duct-tape some of these kids first. But what if there's no food for that? We can't just magically vanish them." Molly scoffed as she adjusted her dark hoodie. "We're stealing presents from five-year-olds. Not like I haven't spun enough tales about vegetables in disguise as candy to calm them down and pass them out. It's an art form." Bill's eyes narrowed. "I'm not using vegetables, though. Can't trust veggies to work fast enough. I've got something better." He patted the pocket of his windbreaker, smirking. "Something called 'Hello Kitty' tranquilizer darts." He pulled out a baggie with a few darts gleaming inside. "Hello Kitty tranqs, huh?" Molly rolled her eyes, skeptical. "Won't they be too cute to do the job?" "I wouldn't know," Bill said evenly. "But I got 'em cheap, and no questions asked. Now concentrate up, let's not forget the cake table. It's like Fort Knox surrounded by armed jailbreak fodder. We'll need some light-fingered distraction and a way to get under the net." Molly cackled. "Just leave it to me, Billsy. I've a little spider monkey friend-for-hire. He can swing out, swipe a couple of presents, and escape back to safety before anyone notices he's there." Bill's eyebrows rose. "A spider monkey? Featurelessly adorable and an acrobat. Excellent touch. But once we've breached the cake table, and if the kids are out, how do we handle both entrances? Let's say a parent walks in." "Don't you worry about your exit," Molly assured him, smirking. "I'll have a plan to freeze time until you're clear." Bill scoffed loudly, looking at her incredulously. "Freeze time? Seriously? I've seen enough heist movies to know no one's ever pulled that off. I'm liking this less and less." "Y'know what they say about heist movies? Ninety-percent bull." She shrugged. "I've got one of those pretend-watches from a toy store. Hack it, set the time exactly six minutes behind. Time travel ain't hard when it's already lagging. Parents'll think it's a faulty clock." Bill passed her the blueprints. "Alright, but don't mess this up. I hear those gifts include a unicorn, a pony, and a pink glitter castle. Worth a pretty penny on the black market." "Oh, we're walking away with a king's ransom," she reassured him. "Remember, teamwork, Bill. Keep the children tranq'd, I'll keep the adults skeptical. Press the panic button if anything goes wrong. And no roughhousing with that monkey. He's kind of pricey." Bill gave a curt nod. "You got it. I guess we're in hock for the best presents this town has ever seen." Molly picked up her megaphone. "One more thing. I'm announcing you as a special guest from an animal rescue charity giving the kids a show. You'll have to impersonate a magician, releasing animals from hats, stuff like that. I'll manage the monkey's act." Bill grimaced. "I'm not great with kids. And magic is for Sleepy Hollow." She elbowed him gently, her eyes sparkling. "We're in this for the long con. Time to own this ruse. Now, let's rehearse those magical animal releases."
