The rain pounded against the windshield as Molly turned to Bill with a mischievous grin. "You sure this is gonna work? I mean, other than shitty weather, nothing good comes from breaking into a goddamn kids' party." Bill revved the engine, ignoring the puddles splashing up on the tires. "Don't worry, snookums. By the time we sashay through that door, those brats will be too busy crying over their moppet toys to care about the presents." Molly scoffed. "You really think this disguise is foolproof? Pin the unicorn horns, I get. But those hideous wands..." Bill smirked, tugging at his glittery robes. "Chill out. We're just two colorful rapscallions crashed the wrong coven. It's foolproof, I'm telling you." The car screeched to a halt. Molly took a deep breath, fiddling with her pointy hat. "Let's get this shitshow on the road." They clawed their way out into the storm, sashes aflutter, as the party music poured from the house. Taking one another's hands, Molly and Bill squared their shoulders, attempting -- and failing -- to look like jolly pros as they stomped up the drive. Bill gave the door a resounding knock. Quiet descened. "Okaaay..." Molly hissed. Bill frowned and pounded again. finally, it swung open, revealing an elderly lady in Mickey Mouse ears. "You lost, dears?" she chirped. Bill and Molly glanced at one another, then forced identical gap-toothed grins at the farcical woman. "Are we ever!" Molly sang. "We're the...um..." "Happy Wingding Wand Squad!" Bill blurted. "Here to spread some fairy dust and stolen gifts." Mouse lady clapped her hands together. "Oh, you must have gotten lost from the community center!" She leaned in, whispering conspiratorially. "Honestly, with their budget, they can't even afford decent clowns." Molly and Bill exchanged a glance. Maybe this wouldn't be so hard after all. "Least we've seen better," Molly murmured. "definintely clowns," Bill agreed with a shudder. The old woman flung the door wide. "Come in come in! Halloween can't start a minute too soon." As they crossed the threshold into a sea of children, Molly leaned over to Bill and muttered, "Stick to the plan. In and out." Bill nodded, fighting the urge to gag. "Got it. Just two horned crooks with bad wiggles." Separating to blend into the screaming crowd, the unlikely duo started fishing through gift bags and unguessing the contents. A pinball of panic and loathing, Molly grabbed Bill's arm. "What's that music?" "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! of course." Bill winced. "I think I'm gonna-" On cue, both crooks clapped hands over mouths and raced for the powder room, leaving the roomful of battered tricksters in their sparkly wake. It was gonna be a long, loud night. curtain falls | Closed|
