Molly crouched behind the row of inflatable flamingos guarding the birthday party, her eyes scanning the makeshift fortress of plastic lawn chairs and rainbow balloons. "You sure this plan is foolproof?" she whispered. Bill grinned, twirling a lockpick between his fingers. "Foolproof? More like fool-flavored, but yes. We sneak in, grab the presents, and vanish before anyone notices." Molly adjusted her black gloves, eyeing the sugar-high children bouncing around like caffeinated squirrels. "And what about the parents? They look like they’ve had two glasses of wine too many already." Bill shrugged. "Distracted is distracted. Besides, I’ve got this." He pulled out a whoopee cushion with a sinister twinkle. "Deploy distraction device." A shrill laugh erupted from the other side of the hedge, followed by a cacophony of squeals as a dad sat on the whoopee cushion. Molly stifled a giggle. "Impressive. For a grown man." Bill winked. "Years of practice." They slipped through the plastic barricade, moving stealthily toward the pile of neatly wrapped loot. Molly grabbed a gift. "Heavy. Must be a deluxe Lego set." Bill stuffed a box of rainbow cupcakes into his bag. "Desperate times. Sweeten the payday." As a chorus of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" started up, Molly whispered, "Operation Sugar Heist is underway." Bill nodded, eyes gleaming with mischievous delight.
